Where have I been???

I know, it has been really quiet around here!!  What's the deal??  I took off for a week to travel down to the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina to spend some time photographing landscapes, and to spend some time in front of the camera GETTING MARRIED!!  WOAH!

I don't have actual wedding photos to share (yet), but I will as soon as they're in hand!   Our photographer, Stephen DeLeon, did a FANTASTIC job!!  Being a friend, and a fellow photographer, he tossed me his camera during our drive to the ceremony site, so that I could check his work! ;)  SO SO GOOD!

This week has been about catching up on my inbox, editing a few shoots from just before we left, and shooting some headshots and 15 year anniversary shots for a really fun couple!  I'll share all of those soon!

For now, I will leave you with some of the images I created standing on the deck of the house we rented last week.  Oh my is it difficult to look at these without wanting to jump in the car and drive right back to the mountains!

This one is from sunrise the first morning we were there.  It was a mild and breezy 45 degrees when I took this, and was 20 and snowing sideways in 40mph winds by mid afternoon!

This was the crisp cold 17 degree sunrise the second morning we were there!

This was the same frigid morning, but just a bit later, as the sun peeked over the ridge!

This was our last night at the cabin when my new father-in-law saw a rainbow in the eastern sky as some of the sunset colors reflected back from the west!

Thanks to everyone who sent us messages and well-wishes!  It was a really sweet and wonderful week!

I can't wait to share all of the recent work we have been doing, as well as some of the images from Stephen when we have them!

"Spring" Family Photo Session - Front Royal, Virginia

A few warm days fooled us into thinking that spring had really come here in the mid-atlantic, so we scheduled a sweet little family shoot at the town square in Front Royal, Virginia!  We wanted to take advantage of the quaint downtown storefronts, the nearby Shenandoah River, the bright red caboose and the large gazebo. . .

The best laid plans. . .

We met up with Missy and Hector and their family, including their HUGE St. Bernard, Phoenix, at the town square.  Everyone was decked out in their spring colors, and the girls (yes, Phoenix too), had bows in their hair!

We got a few shots of the family under the gazebo, as the wind whipped around us, threatening to topple my light and steal the carefully placed bows!  It started to sprinkle a little, and Jeff, my fiancĂ©/assistant had to run to the car to get a shower cap to keep the water off of the flash!  The kids were champs at not looking like they were as cold as they were!

Missy and Hector wanted a few of just the two of them, so we did a few of those while the kids ran around to stay warm!

We all loved the bright red caboose, and the kids were so ready to climb on it, so we headed over there, still keeping in mind plans to use the storefronts on Main Street and make a quick drive over to the river at Shenandoah State Park for a more rustic backdrop.

Sadly, as we were finishing up on the caboose, the light mist that had begun to fall at the beginning of the session turned to snow flurries, and we decided to call it a day!

Thankfully, it has been warming up more consistently, and the DC cherry blossoms are starting to bloom ever so slightly!  We may see some spring outdoor photo sessions soon!

Happy 6 Months!! Jenny & Sean a Belmont Country Club Wedding 10/6/2013

Last October, I had the opportunity to work with one of my favorite couples ever, Jenny & Sean!  The bride and groom were married at Belmont Country Club in Ashburn, VA on October 6, 2013!

I first met the bride and groom at their engagement session at Yards Park in southeast Washington, DC.  They are one of the most laid back and easy going couples I have ever met!  We had beautiful light that evening, and the two of them were so obviously in love and so so so photogenic, that it was just too much fun to photograph them!

Their wedding day was bright, sunny and very warm for October, and the venue couldn't have been prettier for their afternoon nuptials.

Their first look was in the garden near the front of the manor house.  This is always one of my favorite moments of a wedding day!

The ceremony took place on the lawn beside the manor house, and featured gorgeous floral arrangements by Fabienne Laveau of Wedding Muse.  The bride and I share an affinity for purple, and that made me love every visual aspect of this wedding even more!

Formal portraits took place on the cool shady porch of the manor house, where everyone found respite from the heat and glare of the midday sun!

The reception was a lighthearted celebration featuring a lovely meal, lots of dancing and an absolutely GORGEOUS cake!

Knowing the brides and groom's love of the manor house's interior decor, we grabbed them for a few more dramatic interior portraits while the guests were occupied with dancing!  These are some of my favorite shots from the day!

Congratulations on six months of marriage, Jenny and Sean!
